#16449 RE: CombJelly #16434

CombJelly, iAPX432: This processor was in development at Intel in the 1983-84 timeframe, after the release of the IBM PC. It was a novel design, but rather silly actually. It was to be a 32-bit internal processor which addressed memory on a bit basis (rather than byte). That rather limited the totaly DRAM the system could support, it really was designed for making the most of an expensive item (memory) which quickly became cheaper.

Your right in that it was not seriously promoted as an 8086 replacement. It was an internal development project; I'm not sure if there was ever a 3rd party computer built with it.
