Maui: Server Sales Surge for HP, Dell, IBM

This, in addtion to the item posted by Elmer, is just incredible. I assume it won't continue at this rate, but it will be a large positive increase for a while. I am looking for more signs along the way.

Maui -

Maybe its a sign itanium is getting traction now.

Doubt it. Your quote does say The market has been gravitating toward Intel-based servers at the expense of Unix (news - web sites) servers for some time, as the less-expensive machines grow ever more capable.

They mean Xeon. HP does not have any Itanium 2 server that one would consider 'less expensive', with the one possible exception of the HPTC/Linux cluster. Here is their lineup:

Notice one other thing: They emphasize hp Itanium®, although they do give Intel credit in the fine print on the bottom. So when HP says Intel server they mean Xeon; when they mean Itanium2, they say HP server.

Edit: In their CC, Intel gushed about sales to China. I wonder how many of these were HP Xeon servers? It fits.
