It’s like waiting to buy Microsoft at $12 when it went public, never happen. Microsoft went public on March 13. 1986 had 9 splits and a onetime cash dividend of $3. You never could have bought MSFT at $12 and at no point did Microsoft's stock actually trade for pennies either. It debuted at $28 a share and went up virtually from there.
