#278 RE: WTMHouston #277

We stayed @ Caesars & had requested a room overlooking the pool; got one facing the construction for the Forum Shops addition. Since we arrived late Sunday night, there was nothing they would do for us & we were told to check back @ noon Monday. Next morning, early, I went to the Front Desk to see about a room switch & was told nothing was available. I was not happy. On my way back to our room, I passed a desk that said "Casino Registration". I figured if you don't ask, you don't get. I asked there & in 2 seconds she had moved us one floor down with a room facing the pool. Huge room with a view of the pool, Bellagio water show, Paris etc. Poifect. We were set up in our new room & out @ the pool by 9:00 Monday morning.

We couldn't do a thing gambling. There must be lotsa money around. I walked by one craps table @ Caesars Sunday night which was packed - a $200 min bet craps table. Could not believe the action there. I only played craps twice without success. Most of the time we played Let It Ride. Caesars had 2 tables - both were $15 min bet tables Sunday night. Monday they changed to $10 min bet table & they just grinded it out from me. By Tuesday night it was getting pretty pathetic...lol. At the appointed time to meet the spousal unit, I got up from the table & made my way thru the Casino to meet her. I passed a $1 slot & put in a bill; nothing. Proceeded to meet wifey, passing a $2 slot. Put two, one dollar bills in & nothing. The next machine was a $5 machine. I put in a $10 bill. First credit I got 2 doubles & a seven. Light went off; no bell. Had no idea what I won until something flashed that it was 400 credits. Finally someone from the hotel shows up & tells me that the payout was $2000. I think...goody but seem to remember that this may not be THAT goody. The lady asks me for my ID & my Social Security Number. I give her my driver's license & tell her I am Canadian. She says "I am soooo sorry". I say so am I. I know what's coming. She tells me that they withhold 30% from jackpots of that size from non resident aliens which is a real pisser. Nevertheless, after two full days of both of us doing zip @ the tables, I am more than pleased for the hit. I can get back some or all of the 30% but I need to file a US tax return ie 1040 NR along with a win/loss report from the Casino.
After that, the rest of the gambling part of the vacation continued in the sewer. Spent Thursday @ the Mirage playing Let it Ride as they had $5 tables. Again...zip. A woman sat down at the table next to us & her second hand hit a straight flush. I have never seen one of those and it was pretty exciting. She was betting $5 & pulled back her first bet. She played the bonus so for $10 + $1, she got $4,000. She was very excited & immed took out her cell phone & called her friends...lol. Even the hotel people got excited. Mirage was very nice & we had breakfast there.

We ate most of our meals @ Caesars. Our best meal, however, was @ The Palm restaurant in the Forum Shops. Apparently, they are all over the US.

Comps...didn't get any over & above what we qualified for based on our play.

Weather Mon & Tues was great ie in the mid 80's & sunny. Wed, the smoke from the CA fires rolled in. It got windy & the pool was closed. Thursday was cooler.

Saw the Celine Dion Show, Wed night who puts on an awesome show. One of the best we've seen. For some unknown reason they cancelled Thurs's show. Our entire trip was planned around the show as we bot our tickets over 3.5 months ago, so we got lucky that the tickets were for Wed & not Thurs.

All in all, it was a great trip & we are packed & ready to go back.
