Rather, I think that EVEN IF it is AMD64+, Intel will provide systems that will obviate the purchase of AMD systems since Intel systems will be ubiquitous for development (they have to be, actually).

To "obviate" the necessity of AMD systems, Intel first needs an AMD64+ processor that:

1) Performs as well as AMDs product
2) Doesn't heat a small house

If they come up with one sometime next year, well, bye-bye Itanium.
