#132212 RE: BIGKAHUNA57 #132208

My memory is a bit fuzzy on it but I’m pretty sure Medtronic didn’t buy the company that made the robot that eventually became Hugo. If they did they didn’t make the company part of Medtronic that’s for certain.

Now let me get to your questions. To start they already licensed technology for a SP robot camera and instruments…that’s a pretty good start and a nice chunk of the technology that would be needed…the Titan agreement is a pretty strong indication that they are developing a single access robot…is it not? Now you say why would they spend another 4-5 years and $350 million to do that…
Well for one thing $350 million is a LOT less than the $10 million you say they will need to buy Titan. Keep in mind Titan doesn’t plan its commercial launch until 2024 so they still have a long way to go and that’s if there aren’t further delays. So 4-5 years isn’t that much further out than Titans launch.
But of course they could do exactly what they just did with Titan….license the technology. That would give them the patents and cut down on development time. Now you may ask where they get those licenses? I’m not sure..what I do know is there is a lot of robotic technology being developed around the world right now…and certainly things happening that we don’t know about….Vicarious is a great example…look at what they have developed over the years and until recently I never heard anything about their SP robot on this board until recently..
Again…they licensed the SP technology from Titan for a reason …Medtronic has a plan….No indication it includes Enos, in fact the opposite is true.
Further I think it’s far more likely that Medtronic will want to develop a SP robot as an add on to Hugo..or include it as part of the package. Wouldn’t that be a great way to complete against ISRG? I think its much less likely they will try to market two completely different platforms, and the fact they they licensed part of the SP technology needed to achieve that from Titan makes my theory much more plausible
