Agreed. There is no correlation between the current value of an asset and its original purchase price. If I happen to stumble upon a 3 carat diamond and put it up for sale, will the fact that I paid nothing for the diamond influence what it sells for? Of course not. Conversely, if I pay a ridiculously high price for an asset, will that increase the current value of the asset? Again, of course not. Anyone who thinks that the amount paid for an asset impacts the current value lacks a basic understanding of finance. Imo.
