For those of us that pay taxes especially depending upon what tax bracket you're in, taxes can be substantially higher for the short-term trades. I sold some on the run-up also but that was part of my plan for the 3 months going into the run. I accumulated 8,000 extra shares with a plan to sell them at more than a 50% profit. I began selling an increments of 500 shares resulting in an average sale price on those 8,000 shares of about $5.50. I bought my new Harley with the profit and still had plenty of profit left over since my average cost per share was right at $2.

The shares I sold were my older shares which were at a slightly higher average cost per share but they were more than 12 months old so I paid a much cap gains lower tax. Once we broke $20 I did end up selling 4,000 extra shares for n all, well still holding the vast majority of my long-term shares.
