I haven't seen anyone say this is a good thing. Can you point to an example of someone saying that?

The cheerleading has not been changed since the O/S was increased. That was my point.

Also, exponentially isn't quite right. That implies a repeated change over time. This was a single, one-time change, to more than double but less than triple. I'd say "significantly" would be a better description.
