Pure spider silk is not expected to be commercially produced until 2023, if I am not mistaken.
Not sure why it takes so long, but KBLB has been showing signs that scaling up from the lab has unexpected challenges. If the problem with production at Prodigy was simply a lack of shredded mulberry leaves, a temporary fix would have been to hire some workers and buy some kitchen knives and cutting boards while the new ‘automated’ technology was on the way.
Thus 2023 seems like an early date for ‘pure’ spider silk. But it also begs the question: how good is the existing stuff?
