We really don't know why LBHI submitted an appeal.

LBHI recently decided to appeal Maverick's $16.2 million payout,for a loss in Maverick's long positions value, to buy LBHI some time or research Maverick's long positions in more detail before the appeal expire:

Note: LBHI and the ECAPS will divide up a fund set aside to pay their LBH plc's subordinated claims:

The ECAPS get 16.9% of those funds and LBHI gets 73.1%.
