We have to believe that covid played a role in the delay.
I'm sure that COVID did slow things down a little, but then I look at the Particle Bulb which was conceived, designed, and manufactured during the COVID lockdown and in response to COVID.
An alternative explanation for the UBand delay could be that their focus was diverted by Particle which appeared to be low hanging fruit and they put UBand development (which is more complicated) on the back burner. Given that they have fewer than 20 full-time employees, it would be difficult to maintain a concentrated development effort on both programs.
If this, indeed, is what happened then I believe they made a mistake in choosing Particle development (a lower volume, lower profit product) over the UBand (a blockbuster product with huge profit potential). This is just speculation and I'm obviously not privy to all that is going on behind the scenes.
