Large Missouri hospital ICU waiting room, late last night. Worried family members are anxiously waiting.

FDA rep: You heard it right, folks. We advise waiting 31 pointless days before getting even one data point from the B v C trial. That wait is meaningless and we expect your family members to die slow deaths here. Right here, while we do nothing but wait for data that we do not even need to know if the drug worked.

Families, coming around: You ae not serious are you? You have all the results you need but you will not find out if the drug is the cure? You might be able to help these patients but you won't?

FDA rep: it sounds cruel because it is cruel. And it is even more cruel because it is pointless. because the data we need and that you need is already available.

Families, slowly coming to anger: That can't be true. Can it?

FDA rep: We prefer adherence to stupid trial protocol to helping the sick and dying. We prefer family members suffer and die for 31 more days, at least. Even though it is unnecessary.

Families: pleaseget out of here sir. Now.
