YB, Elmer - Compaq was building systems based on Mips, not Alpha. The Alpha effort never really got off the ground, but Mips was being used in all their enterprise systems. So the switch to Itanium is a big deal to that business, a bunch of well-selling product lines had to be (have to be?) converted.
