The data subscription is something I've avoided like the plague, because I never thought I saw a device that would make good use of it. And then I feared the per-megabyte charges for heavy use. Hell, the way my RAZR works, it's hard not to get it to accidentally try to get on the web, and the UI is sluggish enough that I can't count on stopping it.
A responsive, slickly-UI'ed iPhone that has useful tools for making use of the Internet is a much better sell for data service, so much so that I an considering it -- especially if the phone will act as a bluetooth modem for a traveling notebook.
I agree price is a barrier, but price was a barrier to the iPod, too. We'll have to see what more-in-less-space does for this device. It'll be fun to watch.
In the meantime, the new-driven speculators are filing out of the shares since the news seems to fizzled out. When I close my eyes in front of the ticker, I see 2006 all over again.
