Short interest is partially [and I emphasize partially as many big factors] driven by supply and demand. When there are a just a few shares, they can go as a premium to shorts willing to pay price. So throughout the day rates change. At one point I believe it was 250%. So don't get concern for minor drops or even rises ... short interest is high and costly and small and that's what count.
