Cherry Picking (or merely taking notice of an unexpected benefit) has provided critically valuable information for researchers and scientists for centuries. My background is Analytical & Bio Chemistry. So in the 1980s, the firm I'm working for was testing a new biocide for efficacy against a waterborn bacteria. It displayed only moderate efficacy in killing the bacteria, but a surprising approx 80% efficacy in killing the algae. Algae is a much more common and dominant problem in industrial water systems, eg large cooling towers. So would we call this trial a failure due to Cherry Picking? Well, that biocide, we changed our labeling to calling it an algaecide, made alot of money for our company. The m/m and s/c missed Primary Endpoint trials of Leronlimab have provided cherry picking data that have saved the lives of dying criticals, will save many more lives of dying criticals, and will make a lot of money for the developer of leronlimab.
