Claim: Hillary Clinton said “the average Democrat voter is just plain stupid.”

AP ASSESSMENT: False. Hillary Clinton did not say, “Look, the average Democrat voter is just plain stupid. They’re easy to manipulate. That’s the easy part.” The quote is said to be from the book “Rewriting History” by Dick Morris, which was published in May 2004. Morris, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, confirmed in an email to The Associated Press that the quote attributed to Hillary Clinton is “not true.” Eileen McGann, Morris’ wife and co-author, expanded on his comment saying, “Dick has categorically denied that the quote was in the book.”

The photo of Clinton with this false quote appeared in 2015 on a Tumblr page titled “Shocking Hillary Clinton quotes,” which featured a variety of false references. The page asked followers to “SHARE and SPREAD these far and wide…& vote for Donald Trump in November.”

This statement was not uttered by Hillary Clinton, nor was it published in the 2005 book Rewriting History by Dick Morris as something she ostensibly said. We found no record of this quote in any major publication or news account.

In fact, the first mention of this item came in October 2015, more than a decade after Morris’ book was published, on a Tumblr page dedicated to generating fake Hillary Clinton quotes:

You really need to do better fact checking:

Last cycle, numerous false statements were attributed to Hillary Clinton. For example, a quote superimposed on a picture of Clinton, sourced to a book by Dick Morris, reading, “Look, the average Democratic voter is just plain stupid. They’re easy to manipulate,” was circulated on social media.

In fact, Clinton never uttered such words, nor does Morris’s screed even make such a claim.
