If you want to short a stock on their platform, does it make you chose "sell-short", or does it just let you sell something straight away that you don't have using a regular sell order? Etrade has BUY, SELL, SHORT, COVER. If you chose SELL and you don't have enough shares they don't let you execute it. If you chose SHORT and they have borrows they execute it.
