Technically unlimited shares can be sold too (not counting naked shorts). How do you think we get a 1.5 billion volume day with only about 200 million shares OS?
That's same shares being traded over and over again. Some just straight trading. Others being bought to satisfy contracts, then sold and rebought to satisfy more contracts. The contracts are really what drives price movement absent any other material changes to motivate buying/selling.
