sgolds, maybe its unnesessary to limit memory to 4 Gb for budget platforms. First, I suspect socket 734 supports no more than 3 Dimms. There is no 2 Gb Dimms yeat, afaik.
Second, socket 734 single-channel controller has visible performance degradation when you add memory (though not as bad as P4).

So, when you have good performance only with 1-2 Gig of ram, what's the point to disable 64 bits anyway?

Agreed, but I would still leave the 64 in the product name of the value processor, I would even go along with Duron 64, even though I never liked the name that much. 64 bitness is now AMD's biggest selling point, and AMD has spend a fair amount of advertising on on-line sites and publications, and in trade magazines.
