One must remind one's self that MJ1 was approximately 3 miles deep, and though it's a vertical well, it's not perfectly vertical.

Now, MJ2 is going to be deeper. I'm thinking that they are not only targeting the Active Petroleum System, they are drilling in such a way that the vertical nature of the borehole is more true. This is what would be accessed within the MJ1 data to better drill MJ2 and make it more true.
