South Korea to give free COVID-19 tests to pets if they 'show symptoms'’

Nothing to do with DECN but...!

https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/10/dogs-and-cats-are-being-tested-for-covid-19-in-south-korea-14055517/

In the study, people who owned a cat, dog, and in one case a ferret and had a diagnosis of coronavirus were invited to have their pet swabbed. If humans were outside the two-week window of suspected infectiousness, antibody testing was offered which looked for recent (IgM antibodies) or past infection (IgG antibodies).

DECN don't do antobody testing. This is nothing to do with them!

Out of the 17 cats, 18 dogs and one ferret, all cats were tested and none of them except one cat were currently infectious

So infection is uncommon in pets then! 1 in 36 symptomatic animals from high exposure situations showed signs of viral load? Wow!

but some showed signs of having been infected.

NO NO NO NO NO[\b]
There is an important distinction here:
some showed signs of having been EXPOSED! to the virus. That is NOT the same as having been INFECTED by the virus!

This distinction is important! (Not least, It is how vaccines work!)
The immune system in animals and humans encounters multiple threats on a daily basis! It responds to neutralise these threats and 999/1000 times we don't notice. If we TEST for antibodies for the stuff that we were exposed to but did not get sick/die from this will show up everything from your laundry detergent to your girlfriends vaginal secretions! That does NOT mean those things INFECTED you. It just means you were exposed to them and your body responded and dealt with any threat they might potentially cause.
Almost zero evidence of serious pathogenicity of SARS CoV2 in most domestic animals.
But while it is relatively widespread in the environment, they will show evidence of exposure to it!

Unless you look for it with a Petviro/ Genviro that is! Better chance with a Tarot card reading!

It implies a RISK of historical infection, NOT "signs" of histrical infection!

There reains almost zero evidence of serious pathogenicity of SARS CoV2 in most domestic animals. This could change over time.
But while it is and remains moderately widespread in the environment, they will INEVITABLY show SOME evidence of exposure to it, whether pathogenic or otherwise!

To be clear, the SK authorities are pursuing the right PREVENTATIVE response here.
Aimed at preventing NEW variants emerging through trans species migration!
But that analysis requires FULL DNA profiling!
This is a co-ordinated prophylactic Public health response and NOT a sales opportunity for doggy Covid strips that don't even work.
