The first big run up from 4s to over 20 well over a billion shares traded that day.. on this float? naked shorting is everywhere... including the gold market... game stops run wouldn’t have been so insane if it weren’t for the naked shorting.. volume is everything here... much needed to push and make holding short painful... IMO we need much higher for the pain.. prob 20+ or it’s just trending with momentum of buying and selling... we all also have to keep in mind this was a 7 dollar stock dec 2019

Actual number of shares is unchanged. But demand can cause a run on shares, which creates failures to deliver when options are exercised at a volume above the actual number of shares.

It sure does, but the SEC doesn't give a shit about it. The had their pow wow in Congress about GME, but no one talked about GME being short nearly 50% greater than the entire float.
There is no way in hell that AMC can trade a half billion shares with out the Market Makers selling shares that do not exist, yet they did, didn't they?

Daniel Drew is famously credited with an expression that describes the nature of short selling: "He who sells what isn't his'n, must buy it back or go to pris'n."
