#6046 RE: kpf #6044

The $200 savings from the coupon only brings the 5600+ down
around the price of E6600. I spent about $1,100 for the Conroe
back in August and a price of $807 for a similarly configured
5600+ desktop tells me that AMD is giving Dell chips for quite
a bit off list and that Dell is taking more off the price than
HP is right now. As far as I can tell, Dell is selling systems
with the 5600+ while I haven't been able to find any 5600+
systems from HP so maybe Dell has this chip exclusively for
a while. Or HP deems it too expensive to put in consumer
desktops.

I think that the 5600+ is close enough to the E6600 in general
performance and that it will improve performance by 40% on one
of my larger applications and that the system is about $350 less
is a good set of reasons to go with the AMD system from Dell.

But I'll price out a similar configuration with the E6600. I'm
not in a huge hurry to get a new machine as I'm absolutely
buried at work and setting up a new system would take some
time.

As far as dinners go, we can do that at any time. I'm just cheap when it comes to buying hardware. Though not as cheap
as some around here that will build their own systems and get
these deals where you have to take off one shoe and be at a store at 3:00 AM in the morning.
