compare NWGC to Barrick Gold (GOLD), which is Warren Buffet's go-to when he wants diversification into gold.

Today, anyway, you would be keen to change your handle (name) to "NewWorldGold Agent", because Barrick's performance in 2021 has been dismal due to rising rates (cf. TBT shares as indication). But these little companies typically don't have anything like the debt loads of big companies making them sensitive to interest rate shocks. & etc.
