I’m just wondering if they closed all the short positions at this price and now own the stock and then turn around and sell it at profit when it goes up to 30 or more

Short stocks are borrowed shares. You have to pay interest on them like any cash loan. But you have to pay for them at some point. So if it goes down you can pay and make money. But if it goes up you have at some point buy those shares if they never come down. Im not sure if I’m explaining this in a good way. Sorry I’ve had little sleep because of so much studying all the info that flowing in on a few stocks
