CG -

Once again I pose the question. Do people become AMD camp
followers because they don't understand the business or do
they not understand the business because they are AMD camp
followers?

This is one of the great mysteries of life.

Once again I say you can discuss computers in general and leave the caustic attitude elsewhere. Your statements of late have only shown an attitude not knowledge.

Unlike you I like to discuss the big picture. You seem to get stuck on one detail at a time and feel an insult is the only valid response if someone follows a train of thought away from your favorite premise.

Re: Once again I pose the question. Do people become AMD camp followers because

People become AMD stock followers because of this little statistic:

Market Cap:
AMD $5 Billion
Intel $210 Billion

Intel has one competitor, AMD. In the tech business, todays winners sometimes become tomorrow's losers. In the past, AMD has always been limited to the minimum margin market scrapings left by Intel at the bottom of the barrel. Even when AMD had close to 20% market share (and costs) they had less then 10% revenue share.

But now AMD has a workstation and server line that's extremely competitive. They also have a performance PC line that's extremely competitive. They have a unique, differentiated CPU line with AMD64, Hypertransport, and an SOI process and they have a unique, differentiated line in flash that has both low manufacturing cost and steady market share growth.

If AMD takes 20% of the market from the top, instead of the bottom, they could wind up with 40% of the revenue share and might just bring their market cap up to half that of Intel - in which case the stock would go up 2000% in a brief period.

Or Intel might straighten up its 90nm process, start giving away flash, and knock AMD back down, again.

It's a heck of a story, a true story, and that's what gets people so excited about AMD.

chipguy,

AMD camp followers

It seems that AMD investors have a good number of followers - non-AMD-investors who follow them around to their "camp" and throw insults at them.

I sure would like to understand the psychology behind this phenomenon.
