Thanks BnB, The guy's a pro. He did C4-5, 5-6 and 6-7 discectomy and fusion 7 years ago and saved me from living in a wheel chair. I literally know dozens of people who have trusted this guy with excellent results. All he does is spines.
This injury is about 30 years old. The neck injury pre-dates that one by about 10 years. The longer I've waited the better the technique has become. My neck couldn't wait any longer and is traditional anterior diskectomy and fusions with bone splint and titanium hardware.
This low back one was stable until about 1.5 years ago when I injured it again and finished off the last bit of the separation the old disk had provided. About 2/3 of L5-S1 are in contact with no disk for cushion. The remaining 1/3 creates mis-alignment and there's also displacement. The cage will give me the proper spacing again and the alignment and displacement will be corrected at the same time. This, too is an anterior approach, very small incision, considered minimally invasive.
I've done a lot or research. I was lucky to pick a younger surgeon 7 years ago and he's still young enough to be in his "prime." I do thank you guys for your thoughts. I'll be back racing Bob in no time.
Best regards, Tom
