Hi Tom. Re Vaccinations

I had Shot 1 last Friday. No side effects other than a bit of soreness at the site.

My mother, who is 89, had her first (Pfizer) jab on 8th January, second is not due until 12 weeks later! (such is the UK policy to get as many having had 1 jab asap).

Exactly a week later she had a fall (a 'silly slip' whilst making the bed) and fractured her hip (she has quite severe osteoporosis), operated on within 12 hours (late morning 16th Jan) and was doing fine in hospital until the 25th Jan when a Covid test came back positive. She had to isolate for 14 days from the test date and obviously I was very fearful, couldn't even visit her in the Covid care home into which she was moved. But here we are over three weeks later and she's not even had any snivels let alone any other symptoms. So either the vaccine first dose was enough to battle off development of conditions or she's one of the many many who experience no symptoms.

As for me (60 now), no sign of any call-up for a vaccination any time soon, however sounds like they're aiming to have all 65 million vaccinated in the UK by the summer.

Just to highlight that I don't think the vaccine actually prevents contraction, rather just diminishes most of the risks if/when you do contract the virus.

Regards.
