Google pays Mozilla something like $50 million a year for the
search box in Firefox. So that search box is probably generating
hundreds of millions of dollars in ad revenue for Google.

If it remains Open Source, then Google would best off just letting Mozilla develop the browser. If Google needed a particular feature, I'd guess that they have Mozilla's ear. $50 million buys a lot of engineers, t-shirts and pizza.
