There are not 4.5 billion shares short. That is so incorrect. That BS site is a paid promotion site that preys on the uneducated.

The only official short reporting is found on the FINRA website. But investors must understand that almost every stock will show "shorting" daily due to SEC regulations. 99% of the time there is actually no short position.

To confirm any real shorting one must check the Significant Failures to Deliver. But that is not foolproof either.

Please note that fails-to-deliver can occur for a number of reasons on both long and short sales. Therefore, fails-to-deliver are not necessarily the result of short selling, and are not evidence of abusive short selling or “naked” short selling.
