Electronic Etiquette:

When you are corresponding with someone through an on-line service or the Internet, you are, in essence, carrying on a conversation through a machine. The fact that the recipient cannot see you and you cannot see him or her imposes certain limitations. For example, the recipient can't hear the tone of your voice, so it is especially important not to offend people, just as you would try not to in direct conversation or through a letter sent in the mail.

The term coined for Internet-users' etiquette is "netiquette." It is always a good idea, when entering any service or network, to take a few minutes and check the rules, regulations and any netiquette guidelines before beginning a conversation with anyone, entering a "chat room," or corresponding with an individual or a group.
