Patents can been extremely valuable for many reasons...

If they are products that can be licensed to various companies then they can be valuable for many companies...

If they can be sold flat out for a great technological benefits and advantages then they are also extremely valuable...

Being that Apple did miss the mark on getting it in before $OPTi speaks volumes IMO...
