It has been said time and again, Americans are the most generous people in the world with charities. And trillions have been spent on Johnson's Great Society program over the decades. Was it a wasted effort? While I have no stats -if any are even available- I do think many have benefited from many of these programs helping to eliminate much of the poverty. Yet I'm pretty sure there was lots of fraud and mismanagement by agencies overseeing the programs. Problem with fraud is the penalties are to lenient to deter it.
