meanmikeca, You tell me, if "total trades" = 100K wouldn't that mean 50K were sold and 50K were bought? Granted the MM's and brokers make money on both sides, but when it comes down to "actual" value....If I give you .37 for one share that can't count as .74 in trading value can it?? You are the seller and get .37, I am the buyer and pay .37! My money has gone to you and the brokers have skimmed off a little from each of us. How could I possibly sell you a share if I did not have it?

I believe this is just an exchange from one MM to another. depending on who wants the shares, usually you will see an order pieced together depending on who is buying and who is selling, share amounts at bid or ask going to/from seller/buyer.
