Typically it is a strategy that even I use. If you purchased shares substantially lower and it is your intentions to accumulate more at a lower price, you take the shares that you presently own and you put them right at resistance making a nice fat wall. This overhanging of shares on the ask stimulates traders to hit the lower bids thereby filling your order

And trust me, that strategy only works if once you fill on the bid then remove your sizable ask position and the others on the ask follow suit, then you get an uptick and are at immediate profit

it's a strategy to shake off the weak hands. i tested it yesterday and sold a few shares to see if someone will buy my shares and they got bought like hot pancakes in a fat camp!

Nothing unusual there. Trip and dub 8s and 9s are always tuff nuts to crack. Like the others said. A level to shake off weaker hands on a run and prepare for the next leg up.
