There's always the 14 pages of "Risk Factors" to salve the restless souls, too. From what I heard, they have a contingency for the contingency of the contingency of the contingency for the contingencies of the other contingencies that are contingent on any and all future contingencies. Contingent upon a contingency plan being drafted for all the contingencies, of course.

"Maybe KBLB should have had plans in place for a global pandemic"

baloney...it took kim 5 freakin years to get the ok to bring ds worms into vietnam...

then it took many months of quarantine before they were allowed into prodigy...

after all that, kim still used every damn egg he had instead of holding back a few just in case things didnt go right...because everything has ALWAYS gone so well...right?..

if kim HADNT used all the eggs he had, he could have built up a supply again and would have been at tonnage a long time ago...

but since he DID stupidly use every egg, and KNOWING how long it took to get the eggs into vietnam and the length of quarantine, one would have thought he would have immediately jumped all over getting ds flown into vietnam...ASAP!..

but for some reason...he didnt?..because.....?

no one has to even take the pandemic into account...take it completely out of the equation...and the fact remains the fault is all on kim...pandemic or no pandemic...

the one thing that bothers me about all this is that im not even sure that the pandemic prevented more eggs from being shipped into vietnam...

there were hoops to jump thru...2 week quarantines for anyone delivering the eggs, etc etc...but i never saw where there was anything saying they couldnt be brought in...that 10 months ahd to go by before it was possible...

there were plenty of restrictions on tourists and unnecessary travel and such...but there was definitely products and goods being brought in and shipped out this whole time...vietnam manufacturing and production WAS NOT shut down...

it doesnt even appear that kim made any real effort at all to bring in a new batch of ds worms...

im getting the impression that whatever worms kblb had would not do....and that the failure of the fall production attempt was not due to weather or pesticides but was due to the failure of the eggs/worms themselves...

it never made any sense that kim used every egg he had on hand at prodigy...and you know what?...i dont think he did...

it didnt make sense that kim could not get a new batch of worms into vietnam in the last ten months...and i dont think that was the problem at all...i think he knew the worms he had in michigan werent going to work...because they were the same ones that failed last Fall...

look at the recent pr...i couldnt figure out why he worded it the way he did...but it makes sense if there had been a problem with the previous eggs...

"announces that it has completed production and genetic screening of its latest batch of spider silk silkworm eggs. These specialized silkworm eggs are now ready for shipment to Vietnam to restart commercial production."

my original thought was that kblb should have had millions of eggs frozen, just waiting to be delivered for the last ten months...

but the announcement says they just completed production of the eggs they are sending to prodigy?...the "specialized" eggs???

“Might be asking a lot to have a full set of contingencies in place for all unknowns...”

Yes, it probably is asking too much. However, the global pandemic was not a complete unknown. It was certainly on my radar way before March and others as well. Not a hard call to imagine, given that a potential pandemic is on the horizon, that shipping could be disrupted for a significant period of time.

I took KBLB’s reassurances to mean that Prodigy was ready to restart as soon as mulberry became available. Only much later did we find out they had no eggs to farm in Vietnam.

This was not rocket science, especially not for a 999’er like Thompson.

Yes, I wish there had been contingencies in place.

We are seeing the contingency plan play out. If someone says "The Company expects to re-ignite its production expansion over the next 30-45 days," is it possible there is also a presupposition that things could go against the expectation? (rhetorical) Without such a presupposition, a company might say "The Company will re-ignite its production expansion over the next 30-45 days." There are always presuppositions built in to any expectation. This one is all about re-ignition at the earliest possible date/time, beyond the expectation.
