why would contaminated leaves that killed worms

That's the thing; were the silkworms killed or merely inferior producers, thus Prodigy looking for reasons to explain?

Agreed. There is definitely a LOT more to the story than KBLB is letting on.

In the December 3 PR, KBLB stated:

"With hatching complete, the Prodigy Textiles team is now busy rearing this significantly expanded silkworm population. The Company anticipates these silkworms becoming cocoons over the next two weeks, with this batch of specialized silk expected to be completed by Christmas."

So on Dec 3, they expected that the silkworms would become "cocoons over the next two weeks". That would place cocoons around Dec 17. And they expected the silk to be completed "by Christmas".

Then in the December 17, KBLB stated:

"the Company is nearing completion of the second production cycle, of recombinant spider silk, at its Vietnamese production factory. The Company expects to begin shipping the specialized silk cocoons by next week."

So the 2nd production cycle was "nearing completion" and they were expecting to ship cocoons the following week (or about Dec 25).

Then there was a "quiet period" for a month and a half, and then the infamous PR stating that there were "setbacks" on Jan 28.
