NP did not spend a dime. He was granted(given) 500,000 for the “wonderful” job he is doing and was also granted a 2,000,000 share option to buy at a strike price of $3.12 at some point in the future. He cannot exercise the options until they vest and the stock would have to be well above the strike price to handle the tax implications on the transaction.
NP did not pay a dime. He was given opportunity to make millions on the millions he already made by his earlier sale this year.
