"According to Statistics Canada, legal cannabis sales topped illegal sales for the first time in the second quarter. It was reported that Canadian household spending on recreational cannabis reached $648 million in Q2, an increase of 74% over the second quarter of 2019. When added to $155 million spent on medical marijuana, total legal sales reached $803 million. Meanwhile, sales of illegal cannabis for Q2 this year dropped to $784 million. As a result, StatCan estimates that legal sales were 50.5% of the total. This also means annual cannabis sales totalled approximately $2.4 billion. It is also estimated that the legal cannabis industry contributed $5.44 billion to Canada’s gross domestic product in June while the illegal market added another $3.89 billion." from Let’s Toke Business.
