I think Jimmy Carter tried to do that. In spite of the right-wing ridicule that tries to ruin Carter's legacy... the Camp David accords continue to this day as an example of what can be accomplished. Carter continues to work toward these goals of harmony and equality to this day. Politically, I guess history will judge Carter as naive. But in quality of character, integrity and honesty, and Christian values... I don't believe both Bush's added together can equal his example. History will record this as well, imo.
