Most brokers (US) don't allow shorts on stocks under 5 bucks,but it is not a SEC/FINRA rule.

I can short pennies through my broker here in Canada, but need $5 cash per share in my account to back my short.

Risk vs Reward sucks.

I’ve never done it myself and really have no interest in trying, but reading up on it, it can be done With certain brokers... but if you read that article, apparently it is done... in some unsavory ways... can’t prove one way or the other with nphc’s situation, but folks can draw their own conclusions..
