Their early focus was truly dedicated to solar technology. They were working on Photo-Voltaic back-sheets made from renewable materials. They do have a patent for that.
But somewhere around 2012 or 2013 they realized they were not going to get their product to a price point that would be competitive with where China was already at. So they changed their focus to improve rechargeable/EV batteries.
I think Musk is changing directions with the material that he wants to make his batteries. So BioSolar’s technology may not be a high priority to them anymore.
I have my own theories about the race the will ensue from that, but I do believe BioSolar’s recent product that they are seeking the patent for, will be very viable and useful across multiple platforms not just EV.
