#15003 RE: blauboad #14999

blauboad, what this reflects is growing interest and requests from HP´s current server customers in Opteron based systems. I´ve seen the same where I work. So what is HP supposed to do? This is just what had to be expected. Of course, the real question (that they are trying to avoid in focussing on Itanium) is why not adopting Opteron as a Xeon competitor, which is what it is build for? The big Xeon market is what Opteron is targetting, not the tiny niche I2 currently occupies. Of course, that´s the question HP can not answer. But HP´s customers are not stupid. At one point, they´ll have to make a (tough?) decision. Anyway, thanks to HP for confirming that Opteron momentum is already strong enough to warrant such "white papers"...

"The paper said that "the virtual address space of Opteron is limited to 48 bits."

Well, it is a valid criticism for those huge NUMA machines. Didn't SGI sell one recently?
