#3808 RE: Bob Zumbrunnen #3807

Today's update...

I went to Home Depot this morning to pick up a few things so I could fix two running toilets. I come back to the car about 45 minutes later and the stupid thing won't start. I wait approximately 10 minutes and again it won't start. So then I go inside HD and exchange something that I figured out was wrong (a garage door battery) and came back about 15 minutes later and again it won't start. I wait another 15 minutes and it won't start. It's now sitting at HD and I'm at work.

I'm not going to be able to sell this piece of junk if it won't start...there's no doubt about that. Therefore, we need the CSP sensor ($90 installed). The intermittent engine stalling problem and leak in the 1st spark plug well is also a problem...I'm guess that it would be about $200 installed. That brings me to about $300 for a car that is (at best) in Fair condition and worth $2500 on KBB. The head light covers have rusted off and there is some paint that is needed on the left side of the bumper from where someone backed into my wife.

It likely has a blown head gasket as well. But here's my problem with the head gasket theory. We saw yellow film on the oil cap approximately one year ago, but never saw it again until Tuesday. Why would that happen?

So all of this boils down to one thing. Should we throw $300 at the car and fix the plugs, wires, valve cover gasket, and CSP sensor and pray that we can either sell the car soon, trade it in, or drive it for a little while longer and hope that the head gasket problem plays out over a long period of time? Or should we just leave the car at HD and let the Kidney Foundation just come pick it up.
