Re: Yes. I have seen it too often now in the media which I know would not print or run it without Intels approval.

The trade press will adhere to this, because their advertising dollars often depends on it. But as for the enthusiast press, many refuse to even sign an NDA, because they intend to violate them by printing exclusive inside content. For example, do you think the Inquirer waits for Intel's approval before publishing? Obviously not.

Re: But this does not give the answer why they do it. It might be along this: The message transported to the public is Intel will be aggressive on prices next year. I believe they do it to prepare the financial markets for showing lower margins next year and at the same time insinuate a reasoning for it.

You are merely listing possible beneficial side effects of these prices being leaked. It does not suggest that Intel is willfully allowing rogue journalists to publish this information.

On the negative side, it hurts the other press loyal to Intel's NDAs. It also is less visible to the vast majority of the world who does not regularly visit these enthusiast websites. It would be quite easy for Intel to change their policy and advertise future pricing on their website, yet they do not. You're suggesting that they would consider releasing information that only a small percentage of the public will see, that is contradictory to the policy they serve to their closer and more loyal news publishers, and that is potentially damaging to current sales. That's not insightful, Klaus, it's just not that well thought out.
