The other guys were faster than I in responding. Yeah, you're right we needed faster test results. with quicker test result returns syndromic surveillance actually works, without them it is too complicated and depends too much on judgment instead of numbers.

Which all leads to another point. We keep hearing about the value of case finding. It just gets to be an oft repeated, piece of false conventional wisdom. With 3.8 million already infected case finding is kind of useless most of the time. The time to do case finding was early on (back in March, April)when there were maybe just barely enough skilled staff to conduct interviews; decades of public health cuts have assured that the US can not do adequate contact tracing. Using a cell phone by hastily trained non-public health professionals, to skip trace (I like the old public health name) is bogus from the start. That's just not how it's done. It will only work in local areas with relatively few cases. So when the President says he doesn't want money for case finding he just may be right, but for the wrong reason. As noted, I am no fan of his either, but he is president and we need him to succeed if at all possible, just too many are dying. Sorry for the rant, but with over 350 posts today, few are likely to read it anyway. GLTY, always appreciate your posts.
