NeuEnergy®? product impressions...

So I ordered a box of the NeuEnergy tablets to try out for a couple weeks.

My normal morning go-to is either coffee with soy milk or espresso and mix it with some Bolthouse Farms Chocolate Protein Plus, usually in equal portions. So my typical intake of caffeine is on the higher side.

Received the shipment via Canadian Post here in the U.S. and everything packaging-wise was intact without damage to the product. Display box containing 6 tubes of 6 tablets each.

The plastic tubes themselves seem like they could survive being thrown from a vehicle. Very stout...and maybe overkill? They do a fine job of keeping the tablets intact and are probably well suited to being in pockets, pouches, purses, and packs without sustaining damage.

The tablets themselves aren’t huge. Approximately 2 nickels thick with corresponding diameter. By appearance, they’re not dazzling, but fairly nondescript and chalky-looking.

As for flavor and feel, here’s the interesting part: If you’ve grown up here in the States, you’re probably familiar with Smarties. According to Wikipedia, “The candies distributed in Canada are marketed as Rockets.”

Very similar in taste, texture, and mouth feel. Not quite as sweet in terms of sugary quality, there’s a more notable berry fruit sensation once the tablets have crumbled and mixed with saliva. Personally, pleasant enough that I didn’t start gagging. Glad it’s blueberry-based, because for whatever reason, I’m not a raspberry fan.

I’m a creature of habit when it come to eating and usually have something to drink after eating solids. In the case of the tablets, I chased them with water the first day, and on most of the other days had a 50/50 mix of orange juice and carrot juice before commencing with biking, walking, or running.

Taken on their own, they might leave a berry-tasting sensation on the palate until your saliva eventually clears it, or until having something to drink. They could potentially stimulate a salivary response during activity, so maybe that’s the marketing angle about using the product while at work, play, or during physical activity.

Performance-wise, since I wasn’t loaded down with a massive intake (.5 to 1 liter) of fluid, I was not as “sloshy” in the guts. There is a stimulant content with NeuEnergy, but it’s not as high as my usual intakes’ dosages, so there wasn’t a “kick”, but everything else seemed fine whether on the bike, track, or road.

Typical loosening of the bowels (caffeine’s vasodilation and diuretic effects usually stimulate my gastrointestinal tract to pop off with a morning poop in relatively short order) came a little later than with the coffee or espresso intakes. So the post-exercise defecation aligned well with showering and feeling all fired up for the rest of the day.

I’d put the “sustained” time period at 4-6 hours. At that point, personally, the body is well into the work day and chugging right along. I didn’t try any secondary or tertiary intakes, nor did I vary the initial amount ingested from two tablets. That is in keeping with my typical routine of having caffeine in the morning, but not throughout the day, so it may be up to others to share their particular experiences on extended usages.

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the NE tablets. They’re not readily available in my geographic location at present (midwest) and the shipping and handling make them pricier for me than the elixir of the good ol’ roasted arabica fruit, but I could definitely see myself using these for extended hiking trips through the backcountry when lugging extra fuel, grounds, etc, might be prohibitive.

Glad to be a shareholder and to see the extended contract with Japan go through. Looking like a positive future ahead. :-)
