Techman, chipguy, most commens I read on Banias attribute performance gains over similarly clocked Athlons as due to the increased cache. The basic cores are quite comparable.

Faster than an Opteron? I have not seen that! Actually, I don't think they've been compared head to head (maybe that is because they don't make Opteron notebooks), but I doubt that assertion.

Yes it is true, Banias kicks ass on "IPC" compared to P4.

But people buy computers for their performance, not their
IPC and P4 clocks much faster in the same process. Too
bad AMD processors don't have that option open to them.

That's really just a matter of degree. Call it what you want. It took it's brains from a P-III.
